The first step is just to get them on your list; you can obtain the other information you need once you've started building the relationship.

Writing and Sending Emails That Get Read

Getting people on your list is the first step. In order to turn those names into revenue you need good follow up communications. You should send email messages to your customers and prospects at least once per month (once per week is ideal).

It's important that the email looks like it is coming from a "human," and not just another mass email. Statistics show that it can take up to seven or more contacts to turn a new prospect into a sale. Those follow ups can be costly and time consuming if you are doing them on the phone, by direct mail, or by sending individual emails. A properly planned email campaign can AUTOMATE all of those important communications for you. You can do that by using sequential autoresponders that send out your messages on a defined schedule.

For example, let's say someone comes to your website and fills out your contact form today. Your email autoresponder system immediately sends them a confirmation with a PDF attachment outlining your services. Once a week for the next ten weeks it also sends them educational information about your company, the benefits of your products and services vs. your competitors, etc.

Then you supplement that with telephone follow up as time and resources permit. This allows you to reach a new prospect with multiple contacts and high impact information 10 times in ten weeks -- without you spending a dollar or a minute of your time!

As far as existing customers, remember that it's six times cheaper to sell to an existing customer than to find a new customer. You should also be emailing valuable information to your current customers at least once or twice per month, letting them know what you can do for them, providing helpful and valuable information, etc.
